What are Dermal Fillers?

Restoring Volume, Contour and Smoothness

Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance the body naturally contains, are injected to restore facial volume, soften wrinkles and sculpt natural contours. Different formulations suit different areas, such as the cheeks, lips, chin and fine lines.

Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance the body naturally contains, are injected to restore facial volume, soften wrinkles and sculpt natural contours. Different formulations suit different areas, such as the cheeks, lips, chin and fine lines. Your physician chooses the product and depth for each area. Results are visible immediately and typically last 9 to 18 months, depending on the product and area.

Technology

How It Works

Hyaluronic acid fillers integrate with skin tissue, restoring lost volume and structure by attracting and retaining moisture. Cross-linking gives a smoother texture, longer-lasting results and natural movement.

Are You a Candidate?

Risks, side effects and who should not have fillers

Common side effects are temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. Rarely, filler can block a blood vessel (vascular occlusion), which needs urgent attention: severe pain, whitening or colour change of the skin, or vision changes after treatment mean you should contact us or seek emergency care right away. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Your physician will review your history and goals at consultation.

Good Candidates Include

  • +Have facial volume loss or hollow areas
  • +Want to smooth fine lines or wrinkles
  • +Wish to enhance facial contours (chin, jawline, cheeks, lips)
  • +Prefer a natural, non-surgical rejuvenation option
  • +Desire minimal downtime and reversible results

Not Recommended For

FAQ

Common Questions

Do fillers hurt?+

Many fillers contain lidocaine for comfort, and numbing cream is applied beforehand, so most people find the treatment well tolerated.

How long do results last?+

Results can last from 9 to 18 months, depending on the product used and the treated area.

Which areas can fillers treat?+

Fillers can treat various areas including cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, under-eyes and fine lines.

How soon can I see results?+

Results are typically visible immediately after treatment.

Will it look natural?+

Natural-looking enhancement is the goal. Your physician plans for proportion rather than overfilling, so you look refreshed rather than 'done'.

What are the risks, and who should not have fillers?+

Common side effects are temporary redness, swelling and bruising. Rarely, filler can block a blood vessel, which needs urgent attention; hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Fillers are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection, or with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine.

Can I wear makeup after the procedure?+

It is recommended to avoid makeup for the first 24-48 hours.
