What is V Carbon, and is it a carbon facial or Hollywood peel?
V Carbon is a non-laser carbon facial (carbon peel) made in Italy by Promoitalia. A film of activated vegetable carbon and mandelic, ferulic and citric acids is applied and activated with a spray, then removed after 5 to 10 minutes. It aims to brighten the complexion and clean pores. It is not the laser "Black Face Doll" or laser Hollywood peel, and sessions take 15 to 20 minutes.
V Carbon pairs the cleansing action of activated vegetable carbon with a complex of mandelic, ferulic and citric acids. Unlike the laser "Black Face Doll" treatment, it does not use laser energy, so there is no laser heat on the skin. It is a superficial to medium-depth peel, and most people notice a fresher, brighter look afterwards. Results vary from person to person.
No Laser Required
Aims for the brightening of a "Hollywood peel" without laser energy, so there is no laser heat on the skin. As with any peel, temporary redness, irritation or pigment change is possible.
A Visible Glow After One Session
Many people see a brighter, fresher complexion after a single 15 to 20 minute session. Lasting change builds over a series.
No Laser Heat
Because no laser heat is used, V Carbon is often considered for sensitive or darker skin tones that do not suit laser treatment. Dr. Jiang's team confirms suitability for your skin first.

How does a carbon facial work without a laser?
V Carbon combines a carbon film, an activating spray and a neutralizing step, so the depth of the peel can be adjusted. Activated vegetable carbon helps lift oil and debris from the pores while the acid complex exfoliates the surface.
V Carbon Film
A carbon film containing mandelic, ferulic and citric acids is applied to cleansed skin.
Spray Activation
The V Carbon spray activates the ingredients and lets the clinician control how deep the peel works.
Absorption
Activated carbon helps lift oil and debris from the pores while the acids exfoliate the surface. The film stays on for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Neutralization
The film is removed and the skin is neutralized and calmed. No laser is used at any step.

What happens during a V Carbon session?
A session takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and the film stays on for 5 to 10 minutes. Most people feel slight warmth or tingling, and no numbing is needed. Redness usually fades within 1 to 2 hours, and mild flaking, if any, settles in 2 to 3 days. Many people see a brighter look after one session; a series of 4 to 6 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart builds the change over time, with monthly maintenance if you wish.

V Carbon FAQ
What is a V Carbon facial, and is it a Hollywood peel?+
V Carbon is a non-laser carbon facial, also called a carbon peel, that combines activated vegetable carbon with mandelic, ferulic and citric acids. It aims for the brightening and pore-cleansing look people want from a "Hollywood peel" without laser energy. It is a superficial to medium-depth peel, and Dr. Jiang's team chooses the depth for your skin.
How is V Carbon different from a laser carbon peel (Black Face Doll)?+
The traditional Black Face Doll uses a laser to heat carbon particles on the skin. V Carbon is a chemical peel system that does not use a laser, so there is no laser heat on the skin. Temporary redness, irritation or pigment change is still possible, as with any peel, which is why the depth is chosen for your skin.
Does V Carbon hurt, and what is the recovery?+
Most people feel slight warmth or mild tingling when the spray is applied, and the treatment is generally comfortable. Redness usually fades within 1 to 2 hours, and mild flaking, if any, settles in 2 to 3 days. Most people wear makeup and return to work straight afterwards, and sun protection matters in the days that follow.
How many V Carbon sessions do I need?+
You can see a glow after 1 session. For longer-term benefits and oil control, we suggest a series of 4 to 6 treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, followed by monthly maintenance if you wish. Dr. Jiang's team tailors this to your skin.
Is V Carbon suitable for Asian or darker skin?+
Because it uses no laser heat, V Carbon is often considered for Asian and melanin-rich skin that may be sensitive to laser treatments. Darker skin can still react to any peel with temporary pigment change, so we start with a conservative depth and ask you to use daily sunscreen. For pigmentation, Dr. Jiang may suggest a layered plan. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
How much does a carbon facial cost in Richmond, BC?+
The cost depends on the area treated (face, face and neck, or back), whether you have one session or a series of 4 to 6, and what the skin assessment finds. We do not publish prices online; the clinic gives you a quote once Dr. Jiang's team has assessed your skin and agreed a plan with you. Laser carbon peels are a different procedure, so their prices are not a like-for-like comparison.
Can V Carbon be combined with other treatments?+
Yes. V Carbon is sometimes paired with LED light therapy, HydraFacial or microneedling, either on the same day or in a planned sequence, depending on your skin. Strong treatments are usually spaced apart rather than stacked. Dr. Jiang's team builds the plan at consultation and tells you how far apart sessions should be.
How long do V Carbon results last?+
The fresher, brighter look after one session usually lasts from several days to a few weeks as the skin renews. Oil control and smoother texture build over a series of 4 to 6 sessions, and monthly maintenance helps keep them. Daily sunscreen and a consistent home routine also matter. Results vary from person to person.
Can I come from Vancouver or Burnaby for a carbon facial?+
Yes. RAAC is at Unit 110, 5580 No. 3 Rd in Richmond, about a 3-minute walk from Lansdowne Station on the Canada Line, so clients from Vancouver and Burnaby can come by SkyTrain. A session takes 15 to 20 minutes and redness usually fades within 1 to 2 hours, so it fits around a workday. Before an event, book your first session a few days ahead in case of mild flaking.
Is V Carbon suitable for oily or acne-prone skin?+
It is often used for oily, congested skin and enlarged-looking pores, because the carbon helps lift oil and the acids exfoliate the surface. It is not a treatment for active, inflamed acne or cysts, which need a medical acne plan first. Dr. Jiang's team will tell you whether to treat now or wait until a flare settles.
Who should not have V Carbon?+
We postpone V Carbon during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active skin infection, cold sore, open wound or sunburn, after a recent tan, if you take or recently took isotretinoin, or if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Very sensitive or inflamed skin may need to settle first. Tell us about medications and recent peels or laser at booking.
What are the downsides of a carbon peel?+
The main downsides are temporary redness and tingling, mild flaking for 2 to 3 days and, as with any acid peel, a risk of irritation or pigment change, especially on tanned or darker skin. One session gives a short-lived glow; change in oil and texture needs a series. Because no laser is used, it is not a substitute for laser treatment of deeper pigment. Pausing retinoids 3 to 5 days before and avoiding sun lowers the risk.
