Vectus® Laser Hair Removal Richmond, BC
Long-term hair reduction, with settings matched to your skin tone
Laser hair removal uses light absorbed by the pigment in hair to damage the follicle, giving long-term hair reduction rather than complete removal. At our Richmond, BC clinic, the Vectus® diode laser reads your skin's melanin before treatment to set the energy. Most people need a course of sessions several weeks apart.

Why Choose Vectus® for Laser Hair Removal?
Vectus® is a dedicated high-power diode laser for hair reduction. It is a medical laser, a different technology from the broad-spectrum light of IPL devices, and it damages the hair follicle to reduce regrowth over a course of treatments.
Vectus® is a dedicated high-power diode laser designed for hair reduction. The Skintel® Melanin Reader™ measures your skin tone so the energy can be matched to it.
Skintel® Reader
We measure your skin pigment level before treating and use it to choose settings, which helps limit burn risk on melanin-rich or tanned skin.
Advanced Cooling
Sapphire tips keep your skin chilled before, during and after each pulse to help with comfort.
Large Spot Size
A large spot size treats big areas such as the back or legs faster than small-spot devices; timing depends on the area.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The 810nm diode laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and converted to heat that damages the follicle.
Measure (Skintel)
The Skintel reader is placed on your skin and sends your melanin index to the Vectus laser, so the energy can be matched to your skin tone.
Cool and Glide
A chilled sapphire tip rests on the skin before, during and after each pulse to help keep the surface cool.
Target the Follicle
The 810 nm light is absorbed by pigment in the hair and carried down to the follicle, reducing its ability to regrow. It acts on hairs in the active growth phase, which is why a course is needed.
Shedding
Over the next 1–2 weeks the treated hairs push out and fall away. Hairs that were resting grow in later and are treated at the next session.
Who Is Laser Hair Removal Suitable For?
Laser hair removal works best on dark, coarse hair, because the laser targets melanin (pigment) in the hair. White, grey and very light hair respond poorly. Deeper or tanned skin also holds more melanin, so your skin tone is measured and a patch test guides the settings to lower the risk of burns or pigment change.
Suitable Candidates
- +Individuals with dark, coarse hair
- +Those seeking long-term hair reduction
- +People tired of frequent shaving/waxing
- +Those with realistic expectations about the process
- +Individuals in good overall health
Not Recommended
- –People with white, grey, or very light blonde hair
- –Those with active skin infections or lesions
- –Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- –Individuals with certain medical conditions (consult with physician)
- –People taking photosensitizing medications
- –A recent tan, sunburn or self-tanner on the area; treatment is usually postponed
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe for My Skin Tone?
Laser hair removal carries risks if settings are wrong, so we measure rather than guess.
No Guesswork
With Skintel, your skin's melanin level is measured rather than estimated by eye. That matters most for tanned or melanin-rich skin, where settings that are too strong raise the risk of burns or pigment change.

What Happens During a Laser Hair Removal Session?
Hair grows in cycles, so a course of sessions is needed. A session takes about 15 minutes for a small area such as the underarms or upper lip, and up to about an hour for large areas such as full legs or the back. Most people feel a quick snap and warmth, and return to normal activities straight away; redness or small bumps usually settle within a day or two. Treated hair sheds over 1–2 weeks, reduction builds across the course, and occasional maintenance sessions are common.
Pre-Treatment
Shave the treatment area 24 hours before
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanner on the area in the weeks before
Stop waxing/plucking 4 weeks prior

Treated hair sheds over 1-2 weeks; shave if needed, but do not wax or pluck between sessions
Schedule the next session, typically 4-8 weeks later
**Maintenance sessions may be needed from time to time. White and grey hair cannot be treated. Individual results vary.
Laser Hair Removal Questions in Richmond, BC
Does laser hair removal hurt?+
Most people describe a quick snap, like a rubber band against the skin, with brief warmth. The chilled sapphire tip on the Vectus cools the skin during each pulse. Sensitivity varies by area: the upper lip and bikini line often feel sharper than the legs or back. Numbing cream can be used on sensitive areas; mention it when you book so there is time for it to work.
How many laser hair removal sessions do I need?+
Hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen), and the laser works on hair in the active growth phase. Most people need a course of about 6-8 sessions spaced 4-8 weeks apart, which we tailor to your hair and area. The face, hormonal areas and finer hair may need more sessions, and occasional maintenance sessions are common afterwards.
Does it work on blonde, red or grey hair?+
Generally no. The laser targets melanin, so if hair has little or no pigment (white, grey, or very light blonde or red), the laser cannot target it well. It works on dark hair. If most of the hair in an area is light, Dr. Jiang's team will tell you at the consultation whether laser is worth trying or whether another method suits you better.
How do I prepare, and can I shave or wax first?+
Shave the area about 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, pluck or thread for 4 weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair root present. Avoid sun exposure and tanning, and tell us about medications and skin conditions.
Is laser hair removal safe for melanin-rich or tanned skin?+
It can be, with the right device and settings. Higher melanin raises the risk of burns when settings are guessed. The Vectus Skintel Reader measures your melanin index so we can choose settings within a safer range. Side effects such as redness, swelling and temporary pigment change can still occur.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Richmond, BC?+
The price depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions in your plan; a small area such as the underarms takes less time than full legs or the back. We do not list prices online. After a consultation and patch test, we give you a quote for the full course so you know what to expect before you start.
What should I do after a session?+
Apply soothing gel or aloe, avoid sun exposure and use SPF 30+, and skip hot showers, saunas and exercise for 24 hours. Mild redness or small bumps around the follicles usually settle within a day or two. Treated hair sheds over the next 1-2 weeks, and the next session is usually 4-8 weeks later.
Will hair grow back after a course of laser hair removal?+
Laser hair removal aims for permanent hair reduction, not permanent removal. After a full course, treated areas usually grow fewer, finer and lighter hairs, but some regrowth is normal and hormonal changes can activate new follicles. Many people book an occasional maintenance session, often once or twice a year. How much reduction you get depends on hair colour, hormones and the area treated.
When will I notice results?+
Treated hairs usually shed within 1-2 weeks of a session. A visible reduction often shows after the first 2-3 sessions, and the overall result is judged once the course is finished. Hairs that were resting during one session grow in later and are treated at the next, which is why sessions are spaced about 4-8 weeks apart. Results vary from person to person.
Can I shave between laser hair removal sessions?+
Yes. Shaving is fine between sessions, and it is also how you prepare: shave the area about 24 hours before each visit. Do not wax, pluck, thread or use an epilator between sessions, because the laser needs the hair root in the follicle to work. Let treated hairs shed on their own over 1-2 weeks rather than pulling them out.
Can laser hair removal help with hormonal hair growth, such as PCOS?+
It can reduce hair in areas affected by hormonal growth, such as the chin, jawline or neck, but hormones can keep activating new follicles. People with PCOS or other hormonal conditions often need more sessions and more maintenance than average. It helps to have the underlying condition looked after by your own doctor. Dr. Jiang's team discusses realistic expectations at the consultation.
Can I have laser hair removal while pregnant or breastfeeding?+
We postpone laser hair removal during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. There is little safety research on laser hair removal in pregnancy, and hormonal changes at that time can affect hair growth and results. You can start or resume your course afterwards, once you and your doctor are comfortable. Tell us at booking so the team can plan the timing with you.
