Jowls & Sagging Skin Treatment Richmond, BC

Understand which layer has changed, then match the treatment.

Jowls form when facial fat pads descend, skin and the deeper support layer loosen, and bone volume along the jaw declines, so the right option depends on which layer has changed most. At RAAC in Richmond, BC, options include Ultherapy or Thermage for tightening and lifting, EMFACE for muscle tone, threads for repositioning, and filler or Sculptra for lost volume. Results are gradual and vary.

Is This Happening to You?

Facial sagging doesn't happen overnight. You might notice these subtle shifts:

If you recognise two or more of these signs, an assessment can show which layers are involved and which options are worth considering.

The Science

What Causes Jowls and Sagging?

It is not just loose skin. Facial aging is a multi-layer process involving bone, fat, muscle and connective tissue.

1

Collagen Depletion

Collagen production declines gradually with age, weakening the internal scaffolding of the skin.

2

SMAS Laxity

The SMAS is the deep fibromuscular layer. Like a stretched rubber band, it loses elasticity over time.

3

Fat Pad Descent

Facial fat pads don't just shrink; they slide downward, creating hollowness under eyes and heaviness in the jowls.

4

Bone Resorption

We lose bone mass in the jaw and cheeks, reducing the structural support for the overlying skin.

Our Solutions

How Are Jowls and Sagging Treated at RAAC?

There is no one-size-fits-all patch. Dr. Jiang designs a plan around the layers that have changed, using non-surgical options RAAC offers.

A layered approach: bone and volume support, deeper lifting, then skin tightening. Advanced sagging may be better suited to surgery, which we will say plainly.

1

Physician Assessment

Dr. Jiang considers skin thickness, tissue density and facial structure when choosing treatment depth and energy settings.

2

Several Options

Ultherapy, Thermage, EMFACE, threads, fillers and biostimulators are available, so the plan is not built around one device.

3

Settings Set by Anatomy

Energy and depth are chosen for your anatomy and the manufacturer's guidelines, rather than a fixed setting for everyone.

4

Doctor-Led Procedure

Critical energy treatments and injectables are performed or directly supervised by Dr. Jiang, not just technicians.

FAQ

Common Questions

Jowls come from several changes together: fat pads moving downward, loosening of the skin and the deeper support layer, volume loss, and bone shrinking along the jaw. Genetics, sun exposure and weight change also play a part.
It depends on the layer. Ultherapy aims at deeper lifting, Thermage at skin tightening, EMFACE at muscle tone, threads at repositioning, and fillers or Sculptra at lost volume. Many people combine two or more. Advanced sagging may be better addressed surgically.
Ultherapy is generally used for lifting where tissue has dropped, and Thermage for tightening loose or crêpey skin. Some people use both. An assessment decides which fits.
Comfort varies. Ultherapy is often described as brief heat or deep tingling, and numbing cream or comfort measures can be used. Most energy treatments involve little downtime, though temporary redness or swelling is possible; threads and fillers can cause bruising for several days.
Energy treatments build gradually over about 2-6 months, and some people repeat them. Fillers show immediately. Frequency depends on your plan, and results are not guaranteed.
Skincare helps texture and hydration but cannot reach the deeper support layer or restore lost volume. Energy treatments, threads and injectables are used for structural change.
