What causes a double chin?
Fullness under the chin (doctors call it submental fullness) usually comes from one or more of these:
- Fat above or below the neck muscle. Fat under the chin is partly genetic and does not always shrink with weight loss.
- Loose skin that has lost elasticity with age or after weight change.
- Muscle bands (the platysma) that become more visible over time.
- Jaw and chin structure, such as a smaller or set-back chin, which can make the area look fuller even at a healthy weight.
- Posture, which can make fullness more noticeable in photos.
Because the causes differ, two people with a similar-looking double chin may be suited to quite different options.
What are double chin injections?
"Double chin injections" usually refers to prescription injectable products intended to reduce a small, well-defined pocket of fat under the chin. They are prescription drugs, so they are not something to choose from a website. A physician decides whether such an option is medically suitable for a person after looking at the cause of the fullness, the skin, the neck anatomy and the person's health history, and explains the risks in that context.
If fat is not the main cause, an injectable designed for fat will not address loose skin or a set-back chin.
What non-surgical device options are there for the under-chin area?

Every option has limits, and none of them changes the jaw structure or replaces healthy weight management.
Who is a good candidate for non-surgical chin contouring?
People who tend to suit device options are generally healthy adults with a modest amount of fat under the chin, reasonable skin elasticity and realistic expectations about gradual change. People with significant loose skin, a set-back chin, recent neck surgery or certain medical conditions may be better served by a different approach, and some will be advised that no treatment is needed.
