The Science

Why It Flares Up

Rosacea involves chronic inflammation of the facial blood vessels and skin barrier. Understanding the mechanisms helps us target treatment effectively.

1

Vascular Dysfunction

Blood vessels in rosacea-prone skin overreact to stimuli, dilating excessively and staying dilated, creating persistent redness.

2

Impaired Skin Barrier

The protective barrier is compromised, allowing irritants and microbes to penetrate easily, triggering inflammation.

3

Demodex Mite Overgrowth

Demodex folliculorum mites are found in higher numbers on rosacea skin, contributing to inflammation and pustule formation.

4

Neurogenic Inflammation

Overactive nerve endings release inflammatory signals (neuropeptides) that trigger flushing and burning sensations.

5

Environmental Triggers

Sun exposure, temperature extremes, alcohol, spicy food, and stress all activate the inflammatory cascade.

6

Genetic Predisposition

Family history significantly increases rosacea risk. Certain immune system variations make some individuals more susceptible.

FAQ

Rosacea Q&A

Rosacea is a chronic condition, but it can be effectively managed. Our treatments significantly reduce redness and visible vessels. With proper maintenance and trigger avoidance, most patients enjoy long periods of clear, calm skin.
Traditional ablative lasers can worsen rosacea. That is why we use Sylfirm X (pulsed wave RF) and DPL, which specifically target vascular issues without the inflammatory response that triggers flares.
Most patients see noticeable improvement after 2-3 sessions of Sylfirm X, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. DPL typically requires 3-5 sessions. We then recommend maintenance every 3-6 months.
We take extra precautions with rosacea-prone skin. Numbing cream is applied, and energy levels are carefully adjusted. Most patients describe the sensation as warm tingling, not pain.
Common triggers include sun exposure, extreme temperatures, alcohol, spicy food, hot beverages, and stress. We help you identify your personal triggers and build a management strategy.
