People considering ONDA PRO rarely start by asking how it works. They want to know whether it hurts, whether it swells, when they can get back to the gym, and whether they are eligible at all. This guide covers the common reactions, the recovery schedule, aftercare, and who should not have it, based on the manufacturer DEKA's criteria and the process we follow at RAAC. Your physician's assessment decides what applies to you.

What are the side effects of ONDA PRO?

The common reactions are warmth in the treated area, temporary redness, and mild tenderness or aching when pressed, which usually ease within hours to a few days; most people resume normal activities the same day. As with any heat-based treatment, there is an uncommon risk of a skin burn, so energy is adjusted to your feedback, and you should contact the clinic about any blistering or unusual pain.

Why do these reactions happen? ONDA PRO uses Coolwaves microwave energy, which passes the skin's surface and releases heat at a set depth in subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue while the surface stays cool. Brief warmth, redness and tenderness are a common tissue response to that deeper heating.

Does ONDA PRO hurt?

Most people describe it as similar to a hot stone massage: warmth builds below the skin and radiates upward while the surface stays cool, and the handpiece glides smoothly over the area. How it feels varies with the area and your tolerance, and the energy is adjusted to your feedback throughout.

If a spot feels too hot during treatment, say so straight away. There is no need to push through it.

How long is recovery after ONDA PRO?

Most people resume normal activities the same day, and no compression garment is needed. Afterwards, massage the area as directed and keep drinking water. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours (walking is fine), avoid alcohol for three to four days, and stay out of direct sun or protect the area.

Recovery timeline

  • Treatment day: warmth and possible redness in the area, with some aching when pressed. Work and normal walking are fine.
  • Days 1 to 2: warmth fades, and some people still feel mild tenderness. Skip strenuous exercise, massage as directed and keep hydrating.
  • Days 3 to 7: most reactions have passed and usual exercise can resume gradually. Contact the clinic about any discomfort that seems unusual.
  • During the course: two to three sessions spaced three to five weeks apart are typical, with change developing over the following weeks.

What aftercare does ONDA PRO need?

  • Hydration: drink plenty of water before and after treatment.
  • Massage: massage the treated area as your provider directs.
  • Exercise: avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours; walking is fine.
  • Alcohol: avoid it for three to four days after treatment.
  • Sun: avoid direct sun on the area or use a high-SPF sunscreen.

When should I contact the clinic?

Contact the clinic promptly about blistering, broken skin, pain or swelling that is getting worse, redness and heat that do not settle, or any change that worries you. These are uncommon, but after a heat-based treatment it is better to have them assessed early. Do not pop a blister or apply creams of unknown origin; call the clinic first.

Who should not have ONDA PRO?

Under the manufacturer's criteria, ONDA PRO is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding (including up to 10 months after delivery); with a heart condition or a pacemaker, defibrillator or other electronic implant; with cancer in the past 5 years; with severe vascular disease or a clotting disorder; with a hernia, metal or prosthetic implant, open wound or skin infection in the area; with kidney or liver dysfunction; or with uncontrolled diabetes.

What needs a physician's review first?

Some situations do not rule treatment out but need a physician's assessment first: taking blood thinners, recent surgery, or tattoos or injectable fillers in the treatment area. Mention these at your consultation and let your physician decide; do not stop a medication on your own to qualify for treatment.

Your physician will also distinguish subcutaneous fat from visceral fat. ONDA PRO acts on tissue under the skin, so if abdominal fullness comes mainly from visceral fat, this treatment is usually not the right choice.

Is ONDA PRO a weight-loss treatment?

No. ONDA PRO is used to refine local contour and the appearance of cellulite, not to lose weight. It suits people at a fairly stable weight who want to address specific areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, buttocks or under the chin. When weight is changing a lot, local change is also harder to judge.

How many sessions are needed, and when does change show?

Most plans run two to three sessions spaced three to five weeks apart, and some people notice a change after one. A session takes about 15 minutes to an hour depending on the area. Change develops over the following weeks, and maintenance is reviewed once the initial course is complete. Results vary with the area treated, your skin and your metabolism.

How should I prepare?

  • Keep well hydrated in the days before your session.
  • Bring your full medical history and medications, especially any heart condition, implanted device, cancer history or blood thinners.
  • If you have recently given birth, note the delivery date and whether you are breastfeeding.
  • Decide which areas matter most and whether your concern is cellulite, local fullness or laxity.
  • Wear clothing that makes the treatment area easy to reach.
  • Mention any plans for pregnancy, surgery or long travel so the course can be spaced sensibly.
  • Write down your questions, such as how many sessions you may need, how far apart, and when you can return to your usual exercise.

How does RAAC approach ONDA PRO?

At RAAC, every client is first assessed by Dr. Charles Jiang, a licensed physician in British Columbia, and our medical team using the manufacturer's assessment: subcutaneous versus visceral fat, cellulite grade, skin laxity, and palpation for fibrosis and tenderness. Only then are the handpiece, energy and number of sessions set. We take standardized photos and record weight and circumference so progress is measured rather than guessed. Pricing depends on the areas and number of sessions and is quoted after your consultation. Consultations are available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

RAAC is on No. 3 Road in Richmond, BC, a short walk from Lansdowne Station on the Canada Line.
