A short visit that is worth planning properly

Neuromodulator treatment is one of the quicker appointments in aesthetic medicine, with the injection visit itself taking around 15 minutes. That makes the journey from Vancouver the larger part of the day, so it helps to arrive with a clear plan. RAAC's team is physician-led under Medical Director Dr. Charles Jiang, and speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Neuromodulators relax the muscles that create dynamic wrinkles: forehead lines, frown lines, crow's feet and bunny lines. They are also used for jawline contouring (masseter), subtle lip and chin refinement, and sweat control. We map your expressions and muscle strength first so movement stays natural. Onset typically starts in 3 to 5 days, peaks around 2 weeks, and lasts about 3 to 4 months; masseter treatment may last 4 to 6 months. Results vary, and the cost depends on the areas treated.

What a visit looks like from Vancouver

The injection visit is brief. Most of the planning happens in the consultation and in the two weeks that follow.

1

Request a consultation

A phone consultation can be booked first to talk through areas and expectations before you travel.

2

Expression and muscle mapping

Your physician analyses how you move your face and marks the exact injection points, aiming to smooth lines while keeping natural expression.

3

Injections

Ultra-fine needles deliver small, tailored doses. Most people describe a quick pinch, and numbing is available if needed. Tiny bumps fade within 15 to 20 minutes.

4

Follow-up

We review when to expect onset and arrange a refinement at around 2 weeks if one is needed. Because a refinement visit may be needed, ask about timing before you plan your first trip.

Neuromodulator questions we hear from Vancouver patients

Will I look frozen?

A frozen look comes from over-dosing or poor placement. Mapping each muscle lets us soften lines while keeping expression.

Can I go back to work afterwards?

Yes. Avoid lying flat for 4 hours and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Before your appointment, avoid alcohol and blood thinners such as aspirin or fish oil for 24 hours where it is medically safe.

Timing before an event

Peak smoothing arrives at around 2 weeks, so schedule treatment at least 2 weeks before a major event.

Who should wait or choose another option?

Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection at the injection area, neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis without clearance, and known allergy to the formulation. Neuromodulators soften subtle lines; they are not a substitute for surgical lifting.

Vancouver FAQ

Questions from Vancouver Patients

Do I need a referral from my family doctor?+

No. A referral is not needed for aesthetic treatments; RAAC is a private clinic and you can book directly.

Can the first consultation be done by phone before I make the trip?+

Our booking page is set up for a phone consultation, so you can ask your questions about neuromodulators first and decide whether to come in. The in-person assessment is still where the physician confirms suitability and the plan.

What does the cost depend on?+

The cost depends on which areas are treated and the dose each muscle needs, which your physician sets after assessing how your face moves. We do not publish prices online. The plan, and what it costs, is explained at your consultation before any treatment is done, so you can decide with the full picture.

Can I combine neuromodulators with fillers or other treatments?+

Often yes. Neuromodulators relax muscles, while fillers add volume, and the two are commonly planned together. Your physician will advise whether to combine them and how to space visits.

How do I get to the clinic from Vancouver, and is there parking?+

By transit, take the Canada Line to Lansdowne Station, exit toward No. 3 Road and head south; it is about a 3-minute walk. If you drive, building parking is entered from Ackroyd Road and reception validates your plate number for the first 2 hours. Lansdowne Centre parkade, 5 minutes away on foot, is the backup.

How long does the appointment take?+

The injections themselves take about 15 minutes. Allow extra time at a first visit for your physician to review your history, watch how your face moves and mark the injection points. Because the visit is short, most of your day is the journey from Vancouver, so it helps to come with the areas you want to discuss in mind.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?+

First changes typically appear in 3 to 5 days and the full effect at around 2 weeks, which is when a refinement can be reviewed if needed. Results usually last about 3 to 4 months for wrinkle areas, and masseter treatment may last 4 to 6 months. Duration varies with muscle strength, dose and the individual.

Is there downtime, and what should I avoid afterwards?+

Most people go back to normal activities the same day. Stay upright for 4 hours, avoid pressing or massaging the treated area, and skip strenuous exercise, sauna and hot yoga for 24 hours. Small bumps fade within 15 to 20 minutes; pinpoint marks, mild bruising or a headache can occur and usually settle.

Who should wait or not have anti-wrinkle injections?+

Treatment is not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active infection or skin irritation in the area, or with a known allergy to botulinum toxin or its ingredients. A neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis needs your physician's clearance. Tell your physician about all medications, including blood thinners and certain antibiotics, because some can interact.

What side effects are possible?+

Common effects are pinpoint bruising, temporary redness or swelling, and sometimes a mild headache. Less often, an eyelid or brow can feel temporarily heavy; this resolves as the effect wears off. Contact the clinic if something concerns you, and seek urgent medical care for any trouble swallowing or breathing.
